Local RAF Air Cadets from 195 (Grimsby) Squadron last week received high praise following a successful Annual Formal Inspection (AFI).
The Squadron undergoes an inspection from a senior RAF VRT Officer from within the Air Cadet Organisation every year, to ensure that high standards are being maintained, and that the cadets are enjoying the ‘cadet experience’.
Squadron Leader Mike Lewis, a Sector Commander for Trent Wing, took time to inspect the 60 cadet-strong Squadron during a formal parade in honour of the Officers visit.
Sqn Ldr Lewis then watched a presentation given by a group of cadets based on their experiences as Air Cadets over the past year.
Following the presentation, Sqn Ldr Lewis told cadets and staff: “I’m very impressed by the work that has gone into this evening, and by the standards of your cadets.
“It’s very good to be back at 195 Squadron.
“There is such a good ethos here – the cadets have a great attitude and this evening has been spot on. This is what an AFI should be like.”
Flight Leiutenant Terance Shird, Officer Commanding 195 (Grimsby) Squadron, said: “I’m very proud of our cadets and staff.
“I think that often the young people of this area receive a bad press, but this evening and our Squadron are testament to the fact that youngsters are worth investing time and resources into.
“Our Squadron is continuing to grow and achieve some fantastic things. This year we have celebrated our 75th anniversary, and we have the Armed Forces Day national event coming up, so 2016 is our year.”
