Trent Wing MCO

Change of Command

The 10th April 2021 marked a Change in Command of Trent Wing as Wg Cdr Tony Wright relinquished his command to Wg Cdr Daniel Withnall.

A small Covid compliant handover was held to mark the occasion, providing an opportunity to thank Wg Cdr Wright for his 11 years at the helm of Trent. The handover was streamed online with invited guests and members of the Wing Staff present to bid 'The Boss' farewell and watch the presentations of various gifts.

Wg Cdr Withnall began his service as a cadet and rose to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer before transferring to Commissioned service when he timed out. He has served as a Squadron Commander, and was appointed as Wing Staff Officer in 2010 and became the Deputy Wing Commander in 2016, serving briefly as OC Wing in 2020. He transferred to Central and East Region on appointment as Regional Training Officer in July 2020. Other notable roles have included Project Officer and Commander of the Waddington Airshow Support Party and Commandant Trent Wing at the Annual EMTA Beckingham Camp.

Outgoing Officer Commanding Trent Wing, Wing Commander Tony Wright, said "I would like to thank Daniel for his work in many roles on the Trent Wing Staff Team during his tenure, and I am confident that with his knowledge, experience and passion for Trent and the wider RAFAC, the Wing will go from strength to strength even in these our most challenging of times. Please join me in congratulating him on his appointment.

It has been indeed, a privilege and pleasure to command a wing which has so many committed and talented people who make up the Cadets, Staff, Civilian Committees, and Padres who are Trent. The many successes of the Wing and Squadrons over the last 11 years are testament to that. Long may it continue."

Wg Cdr Withnall said " I would like to thank Wg Cdr Wright for all he has done with Trent Wing, handing over the wing in a strong position to grow and develop further as we come out of one of the most challenging periods in our history. I look forward to getting started and meeting with staff and cadets alike. We do face many challenges in the coming year, but I know Trent Wing will tackle them with gusto and strength. I am truly proud to be the Officer Commanding of such an organisation."
